Advocates of the requirement for seat belts on LSVs cite national estimates for golf car-related injuries from 1993 through 1997 obtained from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), which is a compilation of information from reports to hospital emergency departments from a probability sample of hospitals nationwide. They contend that, because golf cars are not designed to travel at speeds higher than 25 miles per hour and their occupants do not tend to be ejected from them, the crash forces in LSV crashes will be greater than those in 1993-1997 NEISS golf car-related injuries and will cause more serious or fatal injuries to occupants.
